Plynlimon research catchments: river flow (Severn at Plynlimon site)

River flow data measured every 15 minutes at the the Severn at Plynlimon site. The data spans from 1971 to 2008. The units are m3/s. The station is registered within the National River Flow Archive as 54022. The gauge is a trapezoidal flume with side contractions. The catchment encompasses the headwaters of the River Severn and has an area of 8.7 km2. 67 % of the catchment was forested up to 1985 when some clear felling took place and the hilltops are peat moorland. The catchment has steep slopes and a high annual rainfall (approximately 2500mm). The geology is Palaeozoic shales, grits and mudstones.
